About this app

An app to encourage a healthier balance between sitting and being active.

Rise & Recharge was developed by the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute after our research demonstrated the link between sedentary behaviour and the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes and some types of cancer.

On average, adults sit for about nine hours each day, and much of this time is continuous sitting with little movement. This lack of movement affects the way our bodies convert food into energy leading to unhealthy levels of blood glucose, insulin and blood fat. Research also shows that doing regular exercise may not fully protect against the health risks of long periods of continuous sitting.

Use Rise & Recharge to track the time you spend sitting and how often you get up. Move at least once in a 30-minute period and add up your periods of movement to achieve your star rating for the day. Aim for the ultimate of achieving a 5-star day!

To help you achieve a 5-star day customise your app reminders to receive regular alerts to get up and move.

Please note
This app uses the accelerometer built into your phone. Some Android models do not have a built-in accelerometer, so an external motion tracker will be required.

I don't expect to get a developer reply. Mostly, because I don't think they know what they're doing. 1. Very laggy. Stupidly laggy, and not explained by having to call on a third party app - it lags when I input the data myself! 2. Why the hell aren't you calling the accelerometer data directly, instead of forcing me to install a third party app I don't need? 3. You need to work out the "always on" function - the alarms don't work if I don't have the app open - and I don't, usually. 4. Links go to 404s...

Hi Ailie, Thanks for your comments. The latest update of the app corrects the redirection issue with the links. The frequency of the alarms can cause the app to skip an alarm if your operating system considers the app to be low priority based on your usage. We've chosen to integrate with Google Fit so that users can integrate their wearable data.

I like the principles behind it. However you hv to basically wear your phone to record the movement. I dont and cant in my job. It also doesnt connect to my fitbit. So useless unless you wear/carry your phone on you all the time!

Hi Sue, unfortunately this is a choice by Fitbit to not allow their data to be integrated with Google Fit and out of our control. We chose to use the data from Google Fit so that people can use the app without having to purchase a third party wearable. Thanks.
