Great for practice, lots of tactic puzzles. I took one point off because the goal sometimes comes off as confusing. For instance it might say "play to win" when you're going for the queen, or "play for decisive advantage" when you are playing for checkmate. In a way that's good because it makes you think but I feel like they may as well not provide a goal. Outside of that minor complaint it's a great app.

Hi Dustin. Thanks for the feedback! Some opponent's moves may change the situation, so the goal displays it for the initial position of an exercise. After the first move, the goal is hidden and you may see the current evaluatiion below th board (like #2, +-, etc). You can touch it to see the full description.

This is great for practicing checkmates. It gives scenarios in which a single move can checkmate the other player and, if you miss it, teaches how to make the right move. It's hard! I'm a beginner and I almost never see the solution. Even after working out what seems like every possible move, I still often miss it. I know that as I get better at the game, I'll get better at this and I suspect that the reverse is probably true. I'm just not there yet.

Best learn how to play chess game I've found. I shows you tactics by focusing on solving real world "puzzles" with increasing level of difficulty. The puzzles get difficult but it has a couple of cryptic hints at first but then just solves the next step for you to keep things moving. It also includes alternative responses to moves.
