About this app

How about discovering the sky like you've never seen?
For beyond a beautiful starry night, the Universe is adorned with thousands of lights, the colors of space!

This application was designed by astrophysicist Peter von Ballmoos IRAP, Toulouse (France) and produced by the Cité de l'Espace in Toulouse.

It allows to browse maps of the sky observed in the entire range of the electromagnetic spectrum: radio frequency, microwave, infrared, visible, ultraviolet, X-rays and gamma rays. These lights are invisible to our eyes are windows to the Universe for astrophysicists opening their extraordinary knowledge field.

Each card in each range of light, you can experience the main celestial objects but also the observation instruments associated. Their development is prodigious since the second half of the twentieth century and the advent of satellites watching over Earth's atmosphere allowing us access to these radiation.

To better understand these invisible lights characterized by their wavelength, the application also offers to visit the café lights, bar Vintage Place du Capitole in Toulouse. This scene shows us how our world would appear if our eyes were not only sensitive to visible light.

This application is subject to a permanent feature of exhibitions of the Cité de l'Espace in Toulouse as a large interactive table. To discover without fault when you come!

IRAP is the astrophysics laboratory and Planetology operating under joint guardianship of the University Paul Sabatier (Observatoire Midi-Pyrénées) and CNRS (National Institute of Sciences of the Universe) and enjoying strong support from CNES .
