About this app

**** Installation Currently only for SAMSUNG devices *******

MUST BE ANDROID 4.4+, AND MAY REQUIRE ADDITIONAL FONT PACKAGE

Please download a Noto Font with the following app. After installing the new font and changing settings, you may need to restart your phone.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.ohwada.android.notofont

** We are currently working on compatibility with all Android devices. Because some letters from the Lakota alphabet are not included in Android's System Font design, we cannot make changes without a direct response from Android developers. Android will need to add new glyphs (Ǧ and Ȟ) to the System Font. Please be patient. **

This is a wonderful tool/resource! My only issue is that, although it does come with a warning that it reads everything you type, including passwords/passcodes, the fact that it does this, seems very invasive. Why does it need to read my passwords/passcodes? Other than that, I do enjoy being able to finally text and type with most, if not all, of the Lakota characters that make up the written language. Wóphila ečhíčiyapi!

Hello! Being a keyboard app, this is a utility that interfaces directly with what you are typing. It does not read what you type, it does not log anything, save anything, or use what you type in any capacity other than to provide you with the ability to type Lakota characters from your Android device. We appreciate your feedback!

App downloads but there is no icon, no way to open the app, no way to use the app. Have Samsung galaxy A51. I used this keyboard daily and my previous phone died completely. Had to get new phone but now this app doesn't work and I can't communicate properly

Hi Eric, this is a dated app that we have left up for older compatibility reasons. Now Android comes with Gboard, which allows anyone to enable the Lakota keyboard option directly through their keyboard settings! Please see our guide on enabling the Lakota keyboard on modern Android devices: https://lakhota.org/lakota-keyboard-in-android/

Needs accents for vowels. This app works really well on my Samsung S20 but I can't accent any of the vowels using just this keyboard. I have to switch between my keyboards to accent a word like Hokšíla. It's annoying.
