About this app

The Lazarillo App is the accessible GPS for people who are blind or have low vision! It allows you to explore the world around you and create routes with audio guidance.

With a wide range of customizability options and a diverse array of mobility tools developed using active feedback from people who are blind, Lazarillo is the solution for anyone looking to navigate accessibly.

As you move, Lazarillo will tell you about nearby places, such as the street that you are walking on, nearby intersections, businesses nearby, transit stops, and more! You can even toggle announcements of specific locations on and off in the exploration menu.

Need to route to a specific location? No problem. With Lazarillo, you can browse through nearby locations or search for a specific location and receive turn by turn guidance to your destination. You can even save your favorite locations to access them easily any time.

If buildings or other indoor locations have been mapped by Lazarillo, you'll be able to explore their interiors with audio guidance as well! For more information on getting your business mapped by Lazarillo, visit lazarillo.app/business

With a host of customizable settings, Lazarillo allows you to build the perfect navigation assistant for your needs. Select a custom voice engine, choose your ideal units of measurement and direction, customize the layout of the exploration screen, and set your language of choice to get audible guidance on your terms.

Note: GPS location services are used even if the app is working in the background. This allows users to keep using the app to navigate without active usage of the screen, allowing you to enjoy the features of Lazarillo even when your phone is in your pocket or when you're using other relevant apps. Continued use of GPS running in the background can decrease battery life.

The Lazarillo app and all of its functionalities are free. All you need is a mobile data or Wi-Fi connection.

Our Mission

As an assistive technology tool, Lazarillo's primary goal is to become a companion for users, providing essential information about one's surroundings that allows for greater autonomy and safer travel. We work every day with people that are blind and have low vision to ensure that this solution is as effective as possible.

I like the app just fine when I was using my older Samsung Galaxy s10 but since switching to my s21 ultra running Android 14 and one UI 6 the app doesn't seem to run correctly it does not recalculate when I decide to take a different route veering off course slightly so I've had to now choose the Google maps option instead of the lazarillo option, also for some reason it does not allow me to save favorites.

Hi Mario, we are sorry for the inconvenience, and we appreciate your comments that help us to improve the app. According to what you told us, we have found some problems between Lazarillo and the latest version of Android. Our development team is working to deliver a new version with these issues resolved. Thank you for your comments and for us...

I'm a sighted person who has been trying this app out because I'm helping a lady who has recently become blind. In general it seems excellent but it can seemingly forget the tracked destination sometimes; this has happened when on a bus journey of several miles I've set it to track the destination bus stop - after a few miles it stops giving updates on the distance to the tracked destination.
