This new app conductor Simon Murphy and The Hague's Baroque Orchestra, The New Dutch Academy (NDA), brings international music traditions of the cosmopolitan Dutch royal city to life.
At the time of Anne of Hanover and William V The Hague was a bustling royal residence with its own court orchestra, several opera houses, numerous public concert series, internationally influential music publishers and many musical superstar visitors, including Mozart, Abel, JC Bach, Beethoven and Dussek.
Through 18th-century paintings, exquisite carvings, historical maps and the NDA's world premiere recordings of symphonic music by composers associated with The Hague's 18th-century court of Orange, this app is an exciting multi-media guided tour of The Hague's dynamic 18th century culture scene.
You can use the content of this app as a virtual voyage of discovery, a musical walk or both. You will be taken by the royal residence along the 18th-century concert halls and opera houses and along streets where composers and publishers lived and worked.
With the result of more than a decade of scientific research and musical exploration this new app makes this inspiring Dutch cultural heritage for the first time accessible to a general audience.
In addition, the app provides current information on the NDA orchestra and its activities including concerts, recordings, research projects and international tours.
