About this app

Access an entire bookshelf of rock climbing, bouldering, and backcountry skiing guidebooks on your Android device, even beyond the reach of cell phone coverage. rakkup reinvents the outdoor guidebook for the smartphone era.

We've partnered with Beacon Guidebooks, Wolverine Publishing, and other authors and publishers around the world to bring you rich guidebooks complete with color photos and topo drawings.

Browse climbs and ski descents on a map or in the list format of your choice, filter and search in seconds, then navigate using your phone's GPS with a single tap. The app navigates you through the trail system to your climb, turn by turn, and tracks your backcountry snow adventures with offline topo maps and slope angle shading.

I really want to like this more as it helps support local area developers but the ui makes it so painful. I think they need to do away completely with the three panel design. trying to resize the screen to actual read route details or switch between photos or maps always ends up taking like 15 taps to get them in the right position. May be better to just have route info, pictures, and maps just open different full screen pages.

Update to my previous review: Nine months later, and a lot of the bugs have been resolved. The flow of the user-interface has improved as well. Still a couple of bugs there, but it's definitely getting better. March 24, 2023: Clunky UI, not very intuitive, reported bugs don't get any attention.

Installed update. UI still difficult to use. E.g. trying to filter climbing routes for Joshua Tree by grade is almost impossible, since the slider is very hard to set to a particular grade. Also, if I recall correctly the previous version allowed filtering by both sun and shade. Now i can only filter bu sun. No way to find climbs that are in the shade at a particular time of day. Filtering is what I use the app for, everything else is much easier in either printed book or mountain project

Hi Andreas, you can filter on either sun or shade. Just tap on "Sun" and it's a "Spinner" control you can change. I've modified this in our most recent release to make the choice more obvious. Anything about the UI that you find difficult to use, if you're willing to take the time to write us at support@rakkup.com we'd really love the feedback.
