What is MOBO?
MOBO is modern way to practice orienteering using smartphones. MOBO application is developed for local permanent orienteering courses, but using this platform, it’s possible to organise outdoor orienteering events for everyone and everywhere. Phone is 3-in-1 device for orienteering – map, compass and punching device all in one package.
MOBO application is available for Android phones and tablets.
How to starts?
Just install application into phone, find nearest course and start orienteering. Use map on screen and build-in compass for navigation. In terrain controls are marked with special QR codes. When user visits control, she/he will do punch showing QR code to MOBO application. Program will sends punches to server for ranking.

I am surprised, how this app manages to keep a fairly active user base. For me the user experience with this app was the worst of all. The app crashed on my phones (Samsung Galaxy S9, OnePlusX) regularly and randomly. Sometimes it crashes when I open it and browse the courses, at other times it crashes, when I open the map, sometimes it crashes, when I scan the start QR code and it ALWAYS crashes when I scan a certain QR code in the terrain. The app sometimes does not send the punches to the server (even if it says it does). Sometimes the app sends "Unknown map" message for a clearly correct control (this happened with finish control on the last course I used it for). Furthermore, I spent almost half an hour searching for an option to find a competition map within the app. The app is as un-intuitive as the corresponding website. As most of the people I talked to has the same experience with the app, we will abandon it as soon as possible and develop our own system. I love orienteering, but if I was a newbie, coming to run a permanent course with MOBO, I would stay away forever, since this experience was really one of the most disappointing ones for me in 20 years.
