With this app can sightings and Carcasses of marine mammals in the Baltic Sea, such as the endangered harbor porpoises (IUCN Red List) and the seals (gray seal, seal and ringed seal) are reported. Reported carcasses found on the coast of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania by the German Oceanographic Museum (DMM) recovered in Stralsund and thoroughly studied to determine health status and cause of death.
These data are scientifically evaluated by the DMM, interpreted and supplemented by further scientific methods to the study of marine mammals, such as aviation and maritime count and the acoustic sound recordings. Using this collected data areas in the Baltic Sea, which are of particular importance, for example, are localized for breeding or birth of Schweinswalkälbern. Furthermore, the data used for the maintenance and, if necessary, extend existing protection concepts.
