Furdy Text

Furdy Text is the text editor feature of the Furdy full version. It can be used on smartphones and tablets. Written texts can be reproduced as a language output and saved as a text file.

Furdy was developed along with a day's support for people with autism spectrum disorder. The original goal was to improve the quality of communication between supervisors and clients. Furdy is the digital version of the classic tools. It includes all METACOM symbols, a day planner, talker, timer, worklists, noise lamps, and much more. With the increasing number of integrated functions, the number of application options also increased. Furdy is available in facilities, workshops, schools, retirement homes, mining facilities and co. And of course in private use.

The full version includes all functions including the approx. 8000 Metacom symbols, which can be used as an alternative to photos for the creation of maps. Each card is assigned a statement in text form or as a recorded language. These maps are used, among other things, to divide complex tasks into individual, easy-to-understand steps. These steps are then combined into a work plan. To make sure that each step is completed, the user sees the corresponding picture and hears the respective voice output.
The daily schedule function: As with a classic day scheduler, all activities defined for the day are combined into a schedule and completed over the day.

Talker function: Works as a common talker, with the possibility to create your own boards from the Metacom symbols and your own photos. Each symbol is assigned a statement in text or language form, which is output with a click.

Timer function: A visual timer that represents the rest of the time in color.

Traffic light function: A digital noise detector, which measures the ambient loudness and visualizes in the form of a traffic light (green, yellow, red).

In addition to the digitized tools, there are other functions which are primarily intended for entertainment, but at the same time also promote the abilities of the users.
A drums function trains rhythm, tact, motor, and combinatorial.
A speech computer function enables writing and storing self-written texts, which can also be reproduced as TTS voice output. Read, write and the phonetics of individual words and letters are brought to the users.
A drawing board function allows you to draw and store creative images.
With the voice recorder function, spoken voice can be recorded and reproduced,
With the clicker function several buttons have to be touched as quickly as possible and one
Quiz function brings users the symbols including their meaning closer and helps them to memorize. In addition, a mood barometer is integrated, which allows users to make their current mood visible to others.

FURDY was developed by a cooperation between the study course "Barrierefreie Systeme" of the Frankfurt University and the day support for people with autism undercats (TAU). In constant contact and close co-ordination with supervisors working there and regular test phases of the application, she was adapted as far as possible to the requirements of the supervisors and, of course, of the clients.
