UK-Gebärden

The purpose of this app is to look up and learn language-supporting signs from the "UK-Gebärden Münsterland" (UKGM) system. The system consists of 263 everyday signs and is intended to help people who have problems learning to speak to communicate with their relatives, friends and acquaintances. The app consists of three parts:

- A catalog in which the signs can be searched and favorites marked
- A video player that can be used to watch the videos on the signs
- A trainer with whom the signs can be learned in two learning modes

This app expressly does not want to display the German Sign Language (DGS). The DGS is aimed at people who are deaf or hard of hearing. The UKGM, on the other hand, is aimed at people who are delayed in language acquisition or who only have a limited vocabulary. There are, however, a few of these language-supporting sign systems in Germany. In Münsterland, therefore, an agreement was reached on the UKGM.

If you would like to learn the signs with the trainer, we recommend using the passive mode first. Here you get videos of signs played and then you have to answer which sign it was. Then you have to rate how difficult you found this question. This increases or decreases your learning progress for this sign. Signs that are difficult for you to answer will be shown more often. The active mode works the other way round: Here you have to make the sign yourself and then use the video to check whether you were right.
