About this app

Experience the magic of GPS audio walks, cycles, drives and even boat rides with VoiceMap tours in over 350 destinations worldwide. They’re like podcasts that move with you, to tell stories about what you’re seeing right now.

VoiceMap’s tours are produced by insightful local storytellers, including journalists, filmmakers, novelists, podcasters, and tour guides. Sir Ian McKellen has even created a tour. It's around London's West End, where he’s performed for over 50 years.

Features:

• Explore at your own pace. Start and stop tours whenever you like, then use the resume option to pick up exactly where you left off.
• With GPS autoplay, you can focus on your surroundings, not the screen. Tap on Start, and let VoiceMap guide you.
• VoiceMap works offline. After you download a tour, the audio will be available offline along with an offline map.
• If you do go off in the wrong direction, VoiceMap plays an audio alert, and you can follow the map on your screen to the next location.
• Listen to tours as many times as you like both in the destination and in virtual tour mode at home.
• With over 1,000 free and paid tours, VoiceMap offers huge variety

Press Reviews:

“High-quality self-guided walking tours...Narrated by local experts, they provide insight into corners of the city sometimes overlooked by regular guided tours.”
Lonely Planet

“We may be biased, but could there be anything more helpful than having a journalist in your pocket when touring a new city? How about a historian, a novelist or just a really passionate local? VoiceMap culls city-specific stories from them all and fits them neatly into walking tours.”
New York Times

It's a relatively short 30 min narrated walking tour of Portland. It's one of the best values available. In this short walk he covers some of my personal favorite things to see in Portland Oregon. I've been an Oregonian for over 50 years and have lived, and/ or worked in or near downtown for most of that time. I would recommend this tour to tourists and locals alike - he points out things you might have missed

Wow... What a nightmare. The app will not start until you are at the exact place... For Augsburg it was a central station with trams going everywhere .. we had to cross tram lines three times in minutes. It then tells you the next stop without any clue how to get there. This is a terrible app - great idea but it sucks the life out of your device and is confusing to use (A back button? Forget it!). I want the 4.99 I spent on it back and more importantly, the few hours trying to get it to work:(.

We're sorry you found this tour frustrating Charles. Tours follow a route, and start at a specific point, so that we can give turn-by-turn directions and develop a narrative. Without this, they're dry and repetitive, plus they can't take you to surprising places. We've processed a refund. We've also asked the publisher to revise the starting point.

Had to restart app multiple times during Reno tour. Kept telling me I was lost even when I was on track. Audio did not auto play most of the time. Sad because I really liked the content and format, it just needs to actually work. Also Reno needs an update due to new construction. It was like "look across this open field at the stadium in the distance" and what I was standing in front of was a brand new 3 story apt. - yes I was walking, tried not to throw any curve balls at the app experience.

I'm sorry you had a disappointing experience Aaron. Were you walking when you did the tour? We sequence locations for more accurate GPS playback, and if you cycle or drive when you do a walking tour, you can get ahead of this sequence. We'd appreciate more feedback. You can reach us at support@voicemap.me.
