About this app

Diabetes, particularly type 1, is a very serious illness, restricting freedom of the way you eat. To give some more freedom in choice of meals, diabeticians teach patients to calculate their carbohydrates intake in their food, which in turn, together with current glucose level, can optimize amount of insulin they should inject. But, off-course you have to read nutrition labels, weigh your meals and do some maths. Because my wife has fallen sick with type 1 diabetes, after visits to diabetic educators, I decided to write for her simple program where she can create database of foods she eats, and which will do carbohydrates counting for her. I used desktop database application and put it on her laptop. After about 3 years of her using software religiously before every meal, somebody asked me if I could write application version of program for smartphone. This applications does not create fancy reports, sends emails to your doctor, reads world foods database or scans bar codes on packaging. My wife doesn't need it. Her glucose meter and its software takes care of all diabetic statistics, and it's not big deal to send email with reports it creates to her doctor, she does it every fortnight. She wants to create database of carbohydrates content of foods she actually eats, either ready food or self-prepared meals. Use it to compile her meal and let application to calculate carbohydrates content. Then measure glucose level and get suggested insulin dose based on her meal carbo content and blood glucose level.
Too complex apps only create confusion, especially among older people.

This app may be useful, however it is in the wrong units. It is not in milligrams per deciliter. Useless in the US.

Units are irrelevant, as long as target and glucose correction factor are expressed in the same units.

Put in the carbs the app told me to give double the dose of insulin. Sort it out before someone dies

Check with your doctor settings - carbo factors, glucose corrections factors and times. Calculator doesn't make mistakes, people do. My wife has been using it for almost 3 years now, and she is quite alive.
