About this app

This App makes part of a work of Art consisting of an intervention to three of Piet Mondrian’s most famous paintings: "Composition with Large Red Plane, Yellow, Black, Gray and Blue", "Composition with lines" and the unfinished "Victory Boogie-Woogie".

Hyperplasticism profits from the possibilities of augmented reality to extend the properties of traditional plastic art. Aiming the camera to any of these paintings will reveal new dynamic, interactive and generative capabilities, allowing for deconstruction of Mondrian’s work.

Many aspects of Piet’s life and career are discussed throughout this piece, including his theory, technique, lifestyle and death.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:

This Application uses augmented reality to present a work of art on a novel and interactive way. To test it, simply run it in a iOS device and aim the device to any of the paintings included in the description. Images of them can be found here:

http://melomontoya.com/wp-ontent/uploads/2013/09/HMondrain.pdf

If you have no access to the paintings, simply download them in pdf by clicking the button in the information page of the Augmented Reality Mode.

The App also has a Virtual Reality Mode to allow you to explore the artistic creations while navigating with your fingers. Just select the desired intervened work and pinch to zoom, pan to move.

This work was presented on the MOD Digital Art Festival 2013 in Guadalajara, Mexico; where replicas of the paintings were displayed. Visitors were encouraged to download the App and discover the full depth of the art display. A couple iPads were available on site for visitors without iOS devices.

Realized by Diego and Melo Montoya.
