About this app

XGimp is an adaptation for Android of the app GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation), which is a freely distributed program for tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. As a result of that, the app XGimp provides many capabilities. It can be used as a simple paint program, image editor, an expert quality photo retouching program, an image renderer, or an image format converter.

XGimp is the app GIMP that runs remotely, so it has the same features:

- Suite of painting tools including Brush, Pencil, Airbrush, Clone, etc.
- Image editor.
- Sub-pixel sampling for all paint tools for high quality anti-aliasing.
- Extremely powerful gradient editor and blend tool.
- Supports custom brushes and patterns.
- Full alpha channel support.
- Layers and channels.
- Multiple Undo/Redo.
- Editable text layers.
- Transformation tools including rotate, scale, shear and flip.

It also includes a local image editor to modify graphics, images and photos. It is based on the open source app "Pocket Paint":

- This local image editor provides the tools: brush, line tool, cursor, fill tool, stamp, circle/ellipse, cropping, flipping, zooming, rectangle, image importing, eraser, moving, and rotating.
- Drawing in full screen.
- Change the line width and shape.
- Color palette & RGBa values.

This app crashes constantly, lags, and makes it a nightmare to download your image afterwards. All while displaying ads on a barely functional port of open source software. Final straw was when it locked out all the functionality, displaying "The gay cannot use this program" and "gay detected" at the top and bottom. Yeah real nice. Wish I could post screenshots...

Just like regular gimp, it's definitely hard to use. Unlike regular GIMP the help files don't work. Also, while I can bring up the keyboard, it won't actually accept any letters hit, so I can't rename files, can't type in text boxes, etc. Overall it's okay. I managed to open an image, rescale it to a larger size, and save it as an xcf file. Most of the tools seem to work, but it's annoying that some of them don't (including the VERY important one of renaming or creating a new file).

Features are comically limited even when they work, which is extremely rare. I'm an avid user of the desktop version, and I wasn't expecting the full suite of features on this port, but I spent 10 minutes trying and failing to do a simple overlay before giving up. The only things this can do consistently is let you doodle over drawings, and crash. If you're expecting anything else, abandon all hope.
