About this app

In 2013, a Kenyan High Court Decision made legal history for girls’ rights internationally and set the high water mark in protecting girls from rape. The decision was the result of the “160 Girls” project, a legal effort mounted by the equality effect (e²). The victory secured access to justice for the 160 Girls that inspired the adoption of the case, and legal protection from rape for all 10,000,000 girls in Kenya.

While the “160 Girls” High Court decision is an equality victory, it will be only as effective as its enforcement. That is why the equality effect has turned its attention to the next phase of the “160 Girls” project – getting the “160 Girls” decision implemented and holding defilement perpetrators accountable for their sexual violence.

This app provides all of the information available on the 160girls.org website in a standalone mobile app, so that the information can be accessed without an internet connection. It also provides directions to police stations in the 4 pilot districts so that incidents of defilement can be reported quickly to the police, and a help request form that can be used to report any challenges related to a defilement investigation.
