About this app

Supported instruments: Piano & Recorder.

Instrutorials provides a visualization of a music score by showing how it is played on an instrument. It allows a person who has no score-reading skills to learn how to play a specific song or classical piece on a music instrument. The real-time visualization of a playing instrument shows the user which buttons to press on a piano, which holes to cover on recorder, etc. so the user can learn how to play the selected piece without any knowledge about the musical instrument he plays it on.

Instrutorials is different from all other mobile applications currently on the market, since it does not require any musical skills at all.

The application uses real-time events encoded in MIDI files and can also be used to browse the webservice MuseScore.com which provides thousands of different scores.

Instrutorials can also play MIDI files provided by third-party applications, as it registers itself in Android as an application that can open MIDI files.

The application is designed to be conform with the Ice Cream Sandwich design guides and therefore uses the Holo Light theme, which is awesome. Instrutorials also has a different layout on both smartphones and tablets (as you can see in the screenshots).

NOTICE:
Instrutorials is an application written with the Android SDK. It was first developed for my bachelor thesis at the School for Knowledge Technology (or 'School voor Kennistechnologie' in Dutch), a cooperation between the Hasselt University and the Maastricht University.

This app is totally free of any cost and ads.

EXPLANATION OF PERMISSIONS:
- Full Internet Access: To search MuseScore.com for scores. Internet access is never used for playing locally stored MIDI files.
- Storage: Used to be able to download the scores in different formats, and to store temporary files for the streamed scores. These are automatically deleted afterwards.
- View Network State: Check for internet connectivity of course.

This app will no longer be updated.

When it downloads a midi file it takes a really big amount of time doing nothing, but it doesn't seem to crash as the circle next to "downloading the needed files" doesn't stop moving. Then I press the home button and it says "invalid or corrupt". Is there something I should do to make this work, or it just won't ?:P I use this app on a Galaxy Note 8 in tablet

The text is a little cut off in the playback menu. Other than that very nice. Would be perfect if one could play the piano for exercising purposes.

Love it, just wish you could rewind or fast forward each piece. Thanks for the app

What's new

Fixed crash on tablet due to oversight in refactoring package name. Version number is still at 1.00 since it was working originally.
