About this app

Booksy is a learning-to-read platform for young kids (4-9). It's designed from the ground up to help young children, K through 2nd grade, practice and develop their reading skills.

*** FEATURED IN THE NEW YORK TIMES: LEARN TO READ WITH TABLETS ARTICLE!***

Think of Booksy as training wheels for books. It gives kids independence and security while providing help and support. Watch them glow with pride as they are able to read by themselves and gain independence.
Booksy is at its heart a library of age appropriate level-readers. We believe kids WANT to read when to give them fascinating and interesting books. Many books are written by experts and PhDs. Beautiful full-color images and illustrations.

Common Core aligned! Books on science topics, social science, math and everyday activities.
But BOOKSY is so much more. It has amazing features that make learning to read simple and fun. And, it includes powerful tools for parents and teachers to track kids' progress.

Booksy requires Android 3.0 or higher. For full functionality, it requires a microphone.
It's a TABLET ONLY APP. It has been optimized for most 7 and 10 inch tablets including Nexus 7 and 10.

This is a great app for my first grade students. They are able to read independently and can get support by tapping the words when needed. There is a good selection of both fiction and non-fiction books. There are 2 changes I would like to see to improve this app greatly: First, it would be great if the kids could listen to their own recording. My students love to record their voices but they are not able to hear themselves played back because that is an admin-only setting. It would be nice to have a play-back option for students to listen to themselves. This would really motivate my kids to practice reading aloud. Also, I would like to see an option to have the words highlighted during the 'read-aloud' mode so that students can follow along with the voice that is reading. Otherwise, this is a great app for the classroom!

This is a handy, pleasant app overall. Things to note: - Booksy 50 (the book pack) is NOT the same as this app and they do NOT sync together. They are two separate apps. - If you purchase books in the free Booksy app, you must be careful when deleting or redownloading the app. Getting your paid books back can sometimes be a pain. - TipiTap was not responsive at their website, Facebook, through their email, or here when I had an issue. If you want to contact them, Twitter was the best/fastest resource. Whoever was handling their Twitter account was on the ball.

As a mother of a second grader, who avoids reading at ALL costs... I almost fainted when she read for an hour straight, the first night we downloaded the app. I did not want to get too excited about it, but the next day, I did not have to say a word... she started reading all on her own! The same thing happened on the third day. Let us see what happens tonight! Overall, I am pleasantly surprised. I don't have to be on top of her, since Booksy sends reports via email, stating the book read, the pace, etc. You can record their little voices reading... something to cherish if we could access the audio file, that would be great! Please add more books and more reading levels, but above all, please, keep up the good work! :)
