SpotMute is light-weight, ad free, permission free*, and open source.
SpotMute mutes the music volume when a Spotify ad is playing, and automagically unmutes afterwards. All you have to do is enable 'Device Broadcast Status' in Spotify settings, and disable ALL battery/memory optimization features on your phone for SpotMute (!).

An easy way to test that SpotMute actually works is to keep the screen on with SpotMute open, and have the phone charging.
Note that SpotMute is a Spotify ad muter, not blocker.

Permissions required:
- 'run foreground service' permission is needed to actually mute ads without the app being open.
- 'network access' is used to load data from dontkillmyapp.com.

HIGHLY recommend this app, does exactly what it says on the tin. Recently, the only complaint i have is that sometimes instead of muting the ad it pauses it, which takes me a hot second to notice because of how many ads spotify chains together nowadays. It's only on very specific ads and ive gotten the problem mostly managed by HIGHLY discouraging spotify from showing me those ads. Other than that, I can't imagine even opening Spotify without opeing SpotMute with it :)

works perfectly on my Samsung tab a. once you get used to the intermittent silence where commercials used to be, the whole Spotify experience is better. no more irritating Spotify jingles. app doesn't work on my Samsung S7 Jpop, it mutes the songs and i have to manually turn up the volume. other than that, this app works as advertised. if there's ever an update I'll be sure to try it again EDIT: reinstalled the Spotify and SpotMute app works great.

Great app, FOSS But i'd like to add a feature request... if i open spotify, to open this app automatically. and maybe to be able to overlay or play an offline track when the ad is playing or to have a nice ring when the ad starts and another one when it ends. It would also be cool to enable mobile data when i open the app (so I can listen on the run) Edit: right now I use tasker but a direct integration would be awesome!

Hi there's a feature the other way around, you can make Spotmute automatically open Spotify, check the overflow menu. Check out the app "Tasker" for the last feature.
